Why is a Ship called a She?

A ship is called a "she" because
there is always a great deal
of bustle around her;there is
usually a gang of men about,
she has a waist that stays,it
takes a lot of paint to keep
her looking good;is it not the
initial expense that breaks
you,it is the upkeep;she can
be all decked out;it takes an
experienced man to handle her correctly;
and without a man at the helm,
she is absolutely uncontrollable,
She shows her topsides,
hides her bottom and,
when coming into port,
always heads for the buoys.

I think every man knows the real reason. Boats are called She because they keep us men out of the deep stuff.  ;D

And all this time, I thought it was due to the Bowsprit being decorated with a " WOMAN " ?
........or maybe the Woman is used, cause the ship is referred to as " SHE "........

Silly. Hardly any boats have figureheads. They were to ward off evil spirits.

Funny, never thought of the 'Flying DutchMAN' as a 'she'...
heheheh! Could be a gay phantom ship.
But you guys forgot to tell the reason for having a woman aboard being bad luck. Ever seen two women fight over a bunch of sailors?
