Actually that is a DAMN GOOD idea! This guy must be an engineer. Makes more sense than one would think. Those straps look like nylon which would not shrink if wet (like rope would do) yet are flexible enough to not 'snap' when under high pressure (pull) under stresses of a high wind gusts. Give the man a cigar!

I think if he's looking at winds strong enough to blow his house into kindling those straps aren't going to make much of a difference. And the anchors would be the weak spot i would suspect. If the ground is saturated from heavy rain it won't hold. But I like his spirit of adventure and ingenuity. (personally, I would put one more double strap right in the middle, spaced evenly between the other two.)

Right now I see the funny side of it.
If those straps are anchored really well
and the house blows away.It will take his
garden with it.
