Quincy is about 105 miles south via I93 from here.
I don't know Chow's ancestral customs but he and Li evidently didn't understand marital references; separation means you actually separate from each other and divorce means tell each other, "Get out of my life!" and no longer live in each other's presence.
Nevertheless, it seems Li told him she was tired of the argument and wanted to retire. Chow ran her over to make sure she was tired, then a few more times to provide her wish.
He entered a plea of not guilty on a gamble -- he just couldn't resist the addiction...
