Middlebury College Bans Energy Drinks, Linking Use to Alcohol, 'High-Risk' Sex
Say goodbye to the caffeine-fueled all-nighter: Middlebury College in Vermont has banned campus sales of popular energy drinks such as Red Bull and 5-Hour ENERGY.

SEX? Ayup, gotta get me some!
College officials blame the drinks for contributing to "problematic behavior," such as alcohol abuse and "high-risk sexual activity," and say they don't contribute to the dining service's mission to "nourish" its students.

"College officials blame the drinks for..."

Did it ever occur to these "College officials" that youthfulness may be the cause of such behavior?

ANYTHING, even water, can be abused.
Health experts agree that energy drinks, when abused, are at best unhealthy, and at worst dangerous: Even just one 16-ounce energy drink can increase blood pressure and stress hormones and could put a healthy young adult at risk for heart damage, concludes a 2015 Mayo Clinic study.

So just how bad is this "stuff"?
Red Bull lists its caffeine content as 80 milligrams for each of its 8.4-ounce cans — about the same amount as an 8-ounce cup of coffee. A Regular Strength 5-hour ENERGY shot contains about the same caffeine content as a 12-ounce cup...
OMG! :o

Caffeine , a gateway drug. :naughty:

Vermont is on a "healthy living" kick. They're taxing drinks with sugar, banning soft drinks from High Schools and Colleges across the state (which, in all probability will only cause those misguided souls to leave campus, go across the street to the local convenience store...and give their hard earned tuition dollars to the stores in exchange for said banned drinks.) At the same time, the state legislature, with cautious backing form the governor is attempting to reach some type of compromise regarding the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana too will be taxed, heavily I'm sure.

As I sit back and contemplate my 64 years, I can't help but believe that we're on that well traveled road to Perdition, and that it's only a matter of time before we join the other "great empires"...the Roman, Greek, British (sorry guys, I don't mean to offend) and if we're really very careful, we might just be able to stay in the shadows, watching this all unfold. I don't believe for a minute though that we'll remain untouched. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Psst. Want to buy an 8.4-ounce can of Red Bull?

It's not as safe as a couple of joints, but you don't want to live forever, do you kid?

Sadly, I agree with you. One of the most important resources a nation can have is a well educated youth. That's not happening all that much anymore.

I used to be against home schooling. Now that's where the better educated kids are coming from.

Unfortunately I totally agree with you on the decline of the American Empire.
