I suspect that alcohol was involved.

I suspect a .22 was involved.
Remember: Safety First - use .50 caliber, or larger, when shooting armored critters. That's what it was invented for.

The story said it was a .38. Another story said it occurred around 3am.
I think Bubba was tired of just sitting around sipping PBRs and decided to go outside and find something to shoot. Armadillos don't make noise. You have to actively look for them to find them.

The prospect of Sim-flying in the South-East corner of the USA always gives me great cause for concern...

Texas is in the west.
I think you would find it quite pleasurable to fly around Florida in something like a Mooney or other high powered prop.
Major airports are Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa.
Other interesting airports are Key West, Marathon (a strip in the Keys), Pahokee (along Lake Okechobee), Tallahassee (kind of a dump considering it's the state capitol), MacDill AFB (Tampa) and Eglin AFB (Ft. Walton Beach).
