I well remember that I had that face in Summer, 1984.... ....

....just a few days before I retired from work.....for ever!.... ...!

I got bored with being retired and too much time on my hands so I now drive a school bus. Every Monday morning I see faces like these board the bus and boy is it a quiet ride to the schools to drop them off. The noise level and the expressions change daily and the smiles increase as the week goes by then Friday comes and then the noise level is extreamly high until the next Monday where it starts all over again. Brings back memories of my days going to school on the bus.

Being retired in 1984 at the age of 50 years was the happiest day of my life!
I woke up on the following Monday morning and suddenly realised I would NEVER, EVER have to get up at some ungodly hour every morning, struggle through traffic, suffer other folks at work for eight hours, then struggle back home again through the traffic, for the next five days, for the rest of my working life...

...now I know I will NEVER again have to repeat the awful process....

....EVER AGAIN!

I spent the whole of my working life collecting a wide range of "things" to amuse myself with, to pass the time, in preparation for the day I retired....
...and that's what I have been happily doing ever since...Lots and lots of toys to play with!... ....!

The word; "Boredom" is a word that doesn't appear in my Dictionary!... ...!

I consider myself very lucky to have retired early in life, to do all the things that I want to do, even on a small pension!

A happy, stress-free life!

The best part about having this job now is that I dont have to do it, I do it because I want to. No pressure. Oh yes....and every summer off to ride my Bike.

Worked for 23 years for a CPA firm. Captains Bligh, Bligh, & Bligh. Co-workers?!? It was "Gladiator make no friend of gladiator, for tomorrow your desk might be cleaned out." I kid you not. Many times I came in only to see so-and-so's desk completely clean. Talk about gone with the wind.

You were always caught between a rock (the bosses) and a hard place (clients), had to put up with weird from the bad co-workers, and more weird from clients sometimes. And I was only part time-ish, worked whatever hours per week it took to get my stuff done, so about 25-30/wk. That was all I could take. The good co-workers came and went quickly, the bad ones never left. Training? Hah, you jest! Everything I learned, be it accounting stuff or computer stuff, I taught myself. It was 90% politics and survival, 10% work.

I was pretty much immune to being fired. What I did, no one else could or wanted to do (client accounting using accounting software, no tax work, and in charge of selecting accounting software when a new package was needed), and I was always reliable.

When I finally chucked it, the relief was profound. No nose-to-the-grindstone anymore. I kept working at home for the CPA tenants that rented space there, they're all very sane and collected, and it's really 'working with them' rather than 'for' them.
