Maybe I shouldn't muscle in here, Foz, but this seems to be relative to humans and mollusks rather than actual fish. Nevertheless, further evidence may indicate that these markings were from said scientist's trowel as he dug it up...
and the arguments go on and on and...
rather the old archeological soup.

Maybe we should go back into our shell now...
