Drafting Guys over 60----obviously written by a former soldier.
New Direction for the war on terrorists.

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing assbackwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters:

Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. "My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry." We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18 -year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, "I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at, and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course, however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. I can hear the Drill Sgt. in the "New army" now, "Get down and give me .. ER ... one."

Actually, the r unning part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see right now is a couple of million pissed-off old farts with 'attitude' and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

If nothing else, put us on border patrol....we will have it secured the first night!

You may be onto something. Old farts could man the drones two per shift for four hours at a time.... potty breaks and coffee runs you see. That way they could earn their ss checks and escape from the house at the same time.

I'm now wondering what "sex" was all about?.... ...., which leaves me time to wonder what I was thinking about... ....!

P.S..."Me" and the "Military" never really got on together....far too much "Shooting" involved, for my liking!.... ...!

I was never able to join the military due to my physical handicap. Had it been otherwise I would have been in the US Navy, since my father and two of my brothers retired from the Navy. I was in a mall when I was 18 and went up to the Navy recruiter's booth just to see what they would say. They told me it would be unsafe for me to be in the Navy, for me and my shipmates. I was a math major and geometry was my best subject so I told them I would make a great navigator, either on a ship or in an aircraft. My reasoning was that in the 1970's if a real shooting war broke out it wouldn't make any difference if my ship or plane got nuked as we would all die anyway. And I could swim before I could walk. Now, in my 60's and with all of my flight sim experience I would make a hell of a drone pilot. Oh well, it ain't gonna happen and if they ever got to the point where they came looking for my help, God help us all.

Just think what an economical advantage the governments would have in drafting over 60's. There'd be less people alive to draw OAP.

I can remember, when I was conscripted, (kicking and screaming), into the British Army, very long ago, the first thing I was advised by my fellow conscripted Chums, was to NEVER hit the target bulls-eye during firing practice with my Lee-Enfield .303.
The reason being, was that if I was an expert shot, I would be selected for the job as a Sniper, and therefore be quickly sought out by the enemy to put a sudden end to my military activities!.... ...!

Nowadays, at my age, I doubt that I would know which end of the .303 to hold, .....let alone fire it!... ...!

I think the enemy would be very safe from me!.... ...!

P.S....The Duty Sergeant never did find my bullet during firing practice...or a hole in the target!

And the first ones to go should be the members of Congress, the President, the Vice President and at least the Secretaries of State and Defense...after all, they started the damn war!

Don't get me wrong: I believe in a strong defense of our freedoms and, yes, I was in the Army. But I also believe that it is way too easy to send others off to get killed or, possibly worse, seriously injured and then brought home to die of neglect by the VA.

I think we could make an exception for them. Matter of fact I think a prerequisite qualification for any of those jobs should be to have served in the military. Combat experience or forward deployments would be a plus. Then those sob's might not be so quick to get us involved in hostile situations.
As for the over 60 idea.....send me in coach! I got a few frustrations I'd like to take out on some snot slinging, scum sucking, slack jawed bottom feeder ISIS P-O-S.

Odd you should mention that particular weapon! The lovely wife and I happen to own one! Surplus from War II. Got all the little crowns and such all over it, and all the numbers match (for once!). I know it was popular to break the stock against a tree and be reimbursed for the whole rifle, back then Dandy way to get some leave money, I understand
Personally, I happen to enjoy firing the Lee-Enfield, although it kicks like a mule! My lovely wife actually lost a tooth the first time she fired it. She enjoys shooting as much as I do I warned her over and over to hold it TIGHT to her shoulder, but did she listen to her coach??? NOOOOOO!!!
Oh well, she listens now, believe me! And yes, I was a rifle/pistol coach for a year or so while in the Corps I enjoyed it a lot, and despite the 7 consecutive Rifle Expert and 1 Pistol expert awards I got, I was never selected for Sniper school...I wonder why...

Its surprising how quickly you learn, as a conscript, all the little tricks to keep you out of trouble.....and possible death!

In the British "National Service" (1950's), we had two types of intakes:
(a) Conscripts, (dragged into the military).
(b) Sign-ons, (25-year dumbsters, with upside-down stripes).

As a civilian Electrical Engineer Apprentice at the age of 16, I was "deferred" until I completed my Apprenticeship at the age of 21years before being "called up".

Funnily enough, the Officers had most respect for the military enforced conscripts, who just wanted to make the most of it for two years, do their best, and then get out of it!

As a kid I was a member of the Army cadet corp, which at the time was great fun. A couple of times each year we'd go to some barracks or other and they'd let us have a go on the range with .303's, Brens, sub machine guns and Brownings, all with live ammo. Although 13 was the minimum age some of the kids were still quite small....as mentioned, the kick from a .303 is something else. One kid got a broken collar bone.

as I said, it was good fun at the time but I'm glad I got that particular fascination out of my system. I'm also glad I didn't join the regulars when I got older, some of my mates did and they didn't do so well once they got to northern Ireland. Even if there was no physical injury there was still other damage.
