OK, it could have been rather nasty, but it was not a grenade, but a thunder flash or flash bang. I have had one go off by my feet, makes you jump somewhat for that WTF moment before you realise what is going on....

The way I know some women are, NOT my lovely wife, just to be clear, they would probably stuff the flash-bang down one's pant's. THAT will give one a WTF???? moment, no question!
