Humans are getting lazier and lazier at naming animals and here's how in 1900 Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, brachiosaurus. In 2000 damnit this is a dog and this is a cat! >:( >:(

I think it may have something to do with how often the animal species name is used.  I mean really, except for in science or history class, how often do you say the specific name of a dinosaur?

And also, don't forget things like subspecies.
Dog: Toy Poodle, Golden Labrador Retriever, Great Dane
Dinosaur: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brachiosaurus, Velociraptor
Bird: Raven, Blue Jay, Rooster

I'm sure they've ignored that man is also a shortened form of mankind, male and female inclusive... only noting that man is part of mankind without the kind. We don't make an issue that woman applies the wo(e) to man.
