"Hey, Jim," hailed a younger mountaineer, "Haven't seen you for months. I see you're footin' it these days. What did you do with that horse you had when we last met? Man, that animal could move... and what a jumper! Can't believe you'd give it up."
"Long story. Has a lot to do with the petrified land we came across some ways further west."
"Petrified, hey?"
"Yeah, petrified... everything, rock solid."
"Everything?"
"Sure 'nough, trees, critters and even the air."
"The air!"
"Yep. I rode that horse up this petrified mountain, passing rock trees, rabbits frozen solid in their tracks... not a green blade of grass. We reached the top where the trail curved around this huge boulder. No sooner were we around it when we found ourselves over this deep gorge, maybe ten to fifteen feet across. We couldn't believe our eyes. There we were, suspended in the sky on top of this petrified air."
"Amazing! What did you do?"
"Well, we were already over the gorge... we just figured we might as well continue across, so that's what we did."
"Well, that doesn't explain what happened to your horse!"
"Ah, that happened when we got back here. That horse of mine got around some of these young fillies and got it in his head to show off. He was so proud of what he'd done over that gorge that he ran to that cliff over there. You should have seen the look on his face when he realized the air wasn't petrified there, too."
