Marriage Terms

"Can someone tell me another word for a husband or a wife?" asked the teacher but, seeing no hands raise, she wrote on the chalkboard and said, "Spouse... and another word for being married is espoused. Now, can someone tell me the word for someone espoused to three or more spouses?"

Finally, one of the students raised their hand, "My dad was telling me about native tribes... I hink he said it's polygamy?"

"Correct," the teacher replied, "It's good to hear that a parent takes time to involve themselves in their child's learning. Now, can someone tell me the word for being espoused to two?"

The same student quickly raised his hand, "Dad told me this, too... bigamy!"

"Correct," responded the teacher, "Did your dad also tell you the word for having only one spouse?"

"Yes, said the student, "He said it's monotony... and he's a victim of it."
