I've rescued Bill Bailey out of a pulpit of all places.
He was playing at the theatre where I was technical manager. The theatre was housed in an old church and the stone pulpit was the backdrop for the stage. Usually the pulpit was covered unless otherwise requested. Bill had played the venue before and requested that it was left uncovered. I prefered it uncovered because it made a spectacular platform for lighting.
About 10 minutes before the end of the first set in his act Bill decides he wants to get into the pulpit ..... there's no way in apart from climbing up the front of it. After several attempts he made it in.... and after a few minutes of hillarity he decided he wanted out ..... BIG problem too high to climb back out.
He cut the act short ..... sent everyone to the bar .... and rather red faced shouted me to get him out. I had to unearth the ladder from under one of the seating banks which took 10 minutes, as I had to make sure that the peeps who were sat there left so I could move the seating.
It made for rather an interesting second act with much heckling.
