Habits of Highly Effective Geeks
By Don Mowbray

11. Management is doing things right, and leadership is doing the
right things. Insulate yourself from both by becoming a
consultant.
10. Passionately pursue win/win situations, but maintain a stealthy
network sniffer log to cover your ass.
9. Be proactive: focus on your dodecahedron of influence rather than
your dodecahedron of concern.
8. Establish a personal mission statement modeled after the numerous
dot com business plans of the late 1990s.
7. As a principle-centered person, distance yourself from the emotions
of a situation by ensuring you are fully vested.
6. Habit 6 is based on self-awareness, imagination, and FUD.
5. Understand consequences and mistakes...and the consequences of
failing to blame your mistakes on others.
4. Become a Quadrant II manager by creating spurious Quadrant III and IV tasks and delegating them to subordinates.
3. Recognize that email enhances empathetic communications, especially when lovingly embellished with three letter acronyms.
2. The lowest level of communication is defensive and protective while
the middle level of communication is based on mutual respect. The
highest form of communication, however, is a press release from
marketing.
1. Remember, effective leadership is a paradigm shift from paradigms to memes.
