Math problem...

Here's a math problem for y'all...

The following question was taken from a basic college algebra take-home quiz given the week before the final
Warning: Some basic formulas may be required in resolving an answer

It takes a boat 8 hours to travel downstream, and six hours to travel upstream.  If the current was a steady 3 MPH (Miles Per Hour), what would be the speed of the boat in still water?

Note: Yes! I know that the hours work out better when reversed! I asked the professor about this and he said that he had indeed written the question wrong, however it is possible to solve the problem the way that it was originally written.
Good Luck! :) ;) :D

that would depend on whether or not the engine is on, and then to how many revolutions. ;D

if the engine is off the boat is stationary.

however, still water by deffinition has no current so the last sentace contradicts it self

I've gone crosseyed ::)

erm....... It aint movin!

I;m going with Crazy....if its in still water then it doesn't move!! Still water by definition means no current or flow....I think!!

Yeah...it ain't moving, but if you flick that doohicky on over there then it will move, but the alterator might have something to do with that as well or what about the doovyflicky.......
