BOO BOO or WHAT

Good morning all... :)

Just posting a topic some of us have fun with at the bugsmasher field.

I know aviators who have flown both types.

The topic usually starts with:

Well Lockheed put the engines on the Electra upside down... ;D

They are mounted on the Herc the right way... ;D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_C-130_Hercules

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_L-188_Electra

Both aircraft use a variation of the Allison Engine.

Not checked out in either aircraft but have flown in both from the right seat and I honestly can't say which aircraft I prefer.

I am sure some of you have other aircraft stories or question you could post.

Could make for an interesting thread.... :)

Also the AVRO Lancaster and the Handley Page Halifax were both fitted with inline and radial engines.

Have heard some stories about the Halifax with both types of engines but can anyone else contribute to this topic?

But I'm quite sure you've seen photos of the 5-engined B-17 - that could fly on just 1 engine, just as well?

Like this one? First I've heard of this plane.

Exactly - that one.  It was a test bed for an early turboprop engine.

That airframe, after its test life was over, lay dormant.  To fit the engine, the cockpit had been moved back from it's normal position.   The airframe was recovered and reconstructed in Kissimmee, FL, and by 2004 (fortunately, before a spate of hurricanes leveled the place where it was being rebuilt) flying again.  I have somewhere in my collection, some photos I took  of the airframe during its rebuild..
