Lucid Lettering....

I was sat in my toilet this morning, (a forced regular habit nowadays), with my bum firmly welded to the freezing cold plastic seat, surrounded by all sorts of technical instruction manuals, (the sort of thing which every warm-blooded male stores in the toilet), and as I browsed through the various manuals of some of my electronic music keyboards, motorcycle manuals, etc, I was wondering, (as I do on such important occasions), with all the different keyboards, etc, exported from Japan to many other countries throughout the world, with its many different languages; does each country have its imported keyboards, etc, inscribed and programmed with its own language?

Would a keyboard user in Outer Mongolia have his/her synthesizer/electric piano, etc, inscribed in Outer Mongolian, and the Chinese user observe the lettering on the front of the keyboard to be in painted brush strokes, and would Egyptian enthusiasts observe the letting on the front of their instruments to be inscribed in Hieroglyphics....?

..and what about the Arabs?

Or are all keyboards etc, lettered in English...and everyone else has to grin and bear it....and learn English... [smiley=evil.gif]...!

I get so used to every piece of apparatus that I purchase being inscribed in English, that I take it for granted that everyone else receives the same identical equipment?.... :P....!

So what do you reckon...Sim V Chums from non-English-speaking countries..(the USA, Outer Mongolia, etc)?... ::)...!

Paul.....the ever curious!... :D...!

Well, I have become a self styled expert, more or less, on keyboards over the past years, but this is an unusual slant on keyboard stuff.

My take is that it would not be cost efficient for keyboard mfgrs to use various logo lettering.

Hello Apex...

My reasoning in the post, was the various letters and words/descriptions appearing above the various keys, etc on the imported keyboards from Japan...or even England !

eg: Utility, Pattern, Menu, Category, Transpose, Strings, Brass, Start/Stop, et al....all the wording on the front of the keyboard...?

These words would not appear in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, etc script...

Would little Muhammed from a small town in Saudi Arabia recognise the word "Arpeggio" on his new Yamaha/Roland/Korg music keyboard!

Paul... ;)..!

Oh, that stuff.  Logically I guess that would have to be in the user's language.  Not sure there's any way to find out.

Thank you for insinuating that many of us are not warm-blooded; there is nothing 'stored' in my toilet (what's put in gets flushed -- including a couple quarts of my blood last month) and the only occasional thing of musical note is quite cacaphonic with a certain foul aromatic air about it.
As to "Arpeggio" (and crescendo, etc.), I believe this is sourced from Italian during the Classical Age.

Another reason why all countries in the world appear to have to be fluent in reading and understanding; "English".... :o...!

Even Japanese manufactured instruments, (Yamaha/Roland/Korg,etc)  purchased by the Japanese, in Japan!

Interesting!

Paul...Its nice to be..."English". I can understand all my Keyboards!.... ;D...!

Blimey... :o...!

Half and half!... ;D...!

Internal programming in English: Grand Pno...."Grand Piano"...Strs... "Strings", etc...!

External Markings> MIDI In MIDI OUT, etc...

Must be confusing!

Paul....A bit like me trying to understand Russian Aircraft Instrument Panels!

Ta for the explanation, Alex!

I've often wondered how folks in far away countries cope with various electronic devices lettered in English, when it is not their natural language!

I would have great difficulties understanding my many programmable synthesizers with all their front panels lettered in Russian!
