Ta for the heads-up, Matt...

The nearest I got to it was my 1948, Series B/C 998cc Vincent HRD Rapide...(The HRD model). Purchased in around 1965...>>>> http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19290/lot/336/

Caused me more trouble and heartache that all my other British bikes put together!
I bought it to replace my lovely 1958, 650cc Twin, BSA Super Rocket Sidecar outfit.
The extra power of the Vincent was requires to pull a large 4-Seater Busmar Sidecar, with all the family in it...and one on the pillion seat!

...but it gave me no end of mechanical+ignition+everything else problems.... :'(...!
Finally sold it for a new 1992 Honda CBR 600cc 4-cylinder F2 Supersport super-bike...which got stolen out of my front garden... :'(...!

Now I've got a 1995 Honda CB 500 Twin, which insists on falling onto my left leg, whenever possible.... :o....!

Paul... ;D... ;D...!

P.S...my 1982 Austin Allegro 1.5 HL (40,000 miles) is still festering in my garage, unused since 1990... ;)...!

Back in his day, my dad had a Vincent Black Shadow. Seem to remember him using the same words that you use for your Rapide.... ;D

Good-old Dad!... ;D...!

I have nightmare memories of leaping up and down on the kick-starter, for hours on end, turning the engine over by one revolution, (generally the wrong one), in a vain attempt to get the Lucas Magneto to produce anything other than a faint orange glow from the Spark Plugs.
It is possible to easily die from trying to start a Vincent HRD...
...trust me..

Paul...Bloody Magnetos!... >:(...!

..... ;D....!

Just to interject a little canny bit of common knowledge on this subject brought to light by Matt.....

I've heard somewhere that almost everyone who is known to have ridden a motorbike an a regular basis, is prone to being half daft !....Witness : Foz , Mark, myself.....etc

I recall, every single day, without fail, the time I got up, looked out of my Bedroom window and observed just a slight oil stain on the ground where my beloved 1992, red+black, Honda CBR 600 FM, used to be, and which was going to last me for the rest of my life on this Planet....(The Bike, not the oil stain)...
It was like my brain exploding, and wondering if I had left it in a Car Park somewhere, the day before, and had forgotten.

No such luck. Some thieving toe-rags had carried it, locked, chained, and alarmed, from my front garden path in broad daylight, in the middle of busy a housing estate!

It was obviously targeted! Never saw it again.

The worst experience of my life!

Paul...Paranoid... :'(...!

Present: 1996 Honda CB 500RR. 1993 Yamaha RX-S 100. 1976 Yamaha FS1M....and fond memories of a 1992 Honda CBR 600 FM....

I remember catching a bloke trying to steal my beloved VF many years ago. I remember how his face exploded as I hit him (I'd forgotten I was holding the crash helmet in my right hand).
I also remember the kindly policeman writing up the report to say the well known scrote tried to stab me with the screwdriver he'd just broken my ignition barrel with and as it was over the maximum permitted length was an offensive weapon and I'd used reasonable force to defend myself ;D
Always a good thing to have friendly policemen as chums! Still cost me nearly
