So, I came home from a wonderful three week holiday with my wife and boys. We went the States for our annual/semi annual holiday in the mountains of North Carolina (hotel family). Great time had by all. Got home, and went directly to the Kennels to collect our old boy. 2 hours later we had to have him put to sleep. A bit of a dampener on the whole holiday thing. His back legs had been getting worse and he had great difficulty in standing. The day before we got home, they had stopped working all together and although we had left a letter with the kennels stating that if required, he could be put to sleep, naturally they did not want to make that decision and waited the extra day for us. We were quite glad really. Rex was a Labrador Belgium Shepard mix and bearing in mind this size of him and that mix, he made it to 14 years and 1 month old. We had him for 10 years as a rescue dog. He settled in and became the fifth member of the family. My youngest son and Rex were joined at the hip. If you culd not find one, look for the other. Now the house is way too big and more times than not this last week, we have forgotten to lock the front door. It went hand in hand with letting Rex out for a pee last thing at night. He now resides in a rather nice box on the sideboard. Given time he will end up in the garden, but my boys have not got that far yet. Oh and yes, I cried like a baby too.

Sad news, Matt...

My youngest Lad (37), is devoted to his Bitch, another rescue Dog, and a constant (only) companion, and I dread the thought of anything happening to her!

What a sweet looking doggy there Matt. It sure does hurt when your family pet has to go. Sometimes I think children get on better than us adults when these things happen.

I'm truley sorry for your loss. I just went through all this my self with my girls less than a year apart. Both Daschunds (spelled wrong). My oldest an akc long hair Saydee then my akc toy named Shelby. I had them both creamated and they keep an eye on me at the house. My wife couldn't take not having a dog so last year I bought her Mojo. A akc Malteses. Im not ready for another dog in my life as I still am in mourning. But Mojo is a good lad and keeps my wife happy. Truly sorry :'(
