One of those joyous moments

So Pete and I were doing a training yomp this morning ready for the Three Peaks challenge when we heard this strange noise... not quite helicopter but helicopterish.
Then we spotted 4 autogyros flying towards us in a diamond formation, they went straight over our heads and off.
A couple of miles later another autogyro also buzzed us! Pete and I agreed not only was the walk excellent (18.5'C and the first outing for my legs in public this year) but the free air display made it extra special 8-)

Wow... But I'll never forget the time that a B-17 (being escorted by a P-51!) flew less than 1000 feet over my house...

Like the time I was at Luton Airport awaiting collection and the BBMF Lancaster came straight over my head and my camera was at the bottom of the rucksack :-[ ::)

Hi Mark... :)

Last year travelling on a main four lane highway I think we saw one of these at about 1500 feet and several hundred yards in front of us at a ninety degree angle to our travel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitcairn_PA-18

I could see the little airport to the north where I think it must have left.
Could not find an exit off the main highway anywhere near it.

We might drop in this year to have a look.

According to the internet:
-one site states 51 built...PA-18
-another site states 20 or so built...PA-18

I mentioned this a long time ago, back in the late 50's when they would do mosquito control spraying with aircraft here in Miami, they would sometimes use a B-25, yep, the real thing, nice and shiny, roaring overhead in the early morning just above treetop level, talk about loud.  It would have to fly back and forth to cover, so we really got a great airshow as it came back around again and again.

At least two of them were I think Bensen designs one of the others I'm sure was a Montgomerie Merlin, the other two I've got no idea.

Those little gyrocopters are becoming very popular nowadays. You can even have instruction at Popham. http://www.flymac.co.uk/mt03-autogyro

Can't say I ever liked the blasted things. Too many whirling bits for my liking. :o :P

The Chief Designer, (up there), got it right when he decided to fit; "wings" to flying creatures... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...
