I have been smokngin for too long. Lost my dad last year to cancer @ 65 from smoking.. I still smoke I find so hard to stop. even when I think of the suffering my dad went thrue. I still light up.. so Hard to stop..

Heard that. Lost my uncle to lung cancer a few years ago. I'll tell ya...I tried so many different ways of quitting short of perscription drugs (never liked that idea). The gum sucked and tasted like peppery crap, patches might have worked, but they were to expensive, "cold turkey" was just too damn hard. What worked for me was a combination of both of those ideas. I convinced myself that I was going to quit, but it was still ok to smoke if I wanted or needed too.

So I tried to concerned myself with smoking only when I needed too, which made me painfully aware that I smoked alot more than I had too. It's amazing how often I found myself smoking for other reasons. Just woke up, time to smoke...having coffee, a smoke would be nice... just finish eating? Why not have a smoke? All day long. But by forcing myself to wait until I "needed" to smoke, I was able to stretch out the times between smoking to a greater and greater extent. Once I was able to get myself down to four times a day, it became a LOT easier. That was the "home stretch", so to speak. And I'll grant you, 18 years may not have been the lifetime that others have smoked, but it's long enough.

And if I can quit...ANYBODY can!

Yeah i have been smoking for 23 years now. since I was 14. I tried to meds to stop.. but could not sleep. wild moods. I would be better of smoking.

I like your way,.. Only when I need one.. That will be tough,. somthing  to ponder.

Congrats on your decision to quit........filthy habit

My wife and I quit "cold turkey" five years ago. We about killed eachother in the process, but it was worth it in the end

I keep telling myself its time to put em down but can't bring myself to yet. Been smoking since I was 15,fixing to turn 38. I found that when I do quit cold turkey works the best for me. I don't do the whole drug thing,never have. I practically have to be dying before I take so much as a Tylenol for a headache. I actually have not been sick of any kind since 97. Kinda weird. They must of put some killer drugs in me before deploying to Africa before I got out :-?. Good for you on hopefully kicking the habit for good

Indeed I did. That was 6 years ago last January. I purchased my first digital SLR camera with the money I expected to save that year.

I stopped smoking, instantly, in 1990.
I got fed up with the stench of my clothes, furniture, curtains, the dripping stains on all the walls and ceiling in my house....

..and most of all, because my youngest Son used to hang his head out of my car window every time we went out for a drive!

I got so fed up with the filthy habit that I resolved never to smoke another cigarette, and stopped immediately, never to touch them again!

I'm good at doing things like that... ...
...I also gave up Sex 37 years ago...never indulged in it ever since!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

All it requires, is resolve and stamina....

I resolved never to smoke again...and stamina for Sex is no longer required... ...!

My Nurse is very impressed with my non-smoking....but she is disappointed that I have lost the urge cuddle her... :-/...!

I never used to actually; "smoke" a cigarette, I was just hooked on the ritual of lighting one up....then leave it in the ash tray to burn itself out!...The was the "habit" I had!

This April 2nd will be four years for me and I'm SO glad I did.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

My wife quit two months before me. Between the two of us we were spending $70.00 per week back then for two cartons. That's $280.00 per month; $3,360 per year and a total of $13,440 in just four years; going by the prices on 2008. 

It's so nice to be able to breath clean air. We were both surprised just how darn bad cigarettes smell. We never realized it before.

Thanks all. Yep Rom, even just in these passed two weeks things have been starting to smell and taste better. You forget about all the subtle smells in the air. And spring is a great time of year to be able to smell things again!
