It won't work on pop stars, sadly... they are used to hearing their voice coming back at them with a slight delay (from the back of the auditorium). And in front of a 30,000-watt P.A., this thing would be useless. :-/
As some sort of "speech suppressor" for ordinary situations, I don't think it would work very well. The average person should be able to quickly adjust to it. The effect would be similar to talking in a cave or some sort of small but reflective space.
