I applied for a job at a local restaurant, which is opening in December. I was fortunate enough to be offered an interview, which is taking place on Monday.

They said on the email that it would take place between 6 and 9pm, but I kind of assumed that this is when all the interviews were taking place, and that I would merely be allocated a timeslot. It would appear that I am there for the solid 3 hours...


The job in mention is bar staff... The restaurant does many house-cocktails as well as a couple of the classics. I'm just wondering if you think I would be tested on any of the drinks.

Has anyone ever gone for such a long interview? The interview for this job (happily been there for over 18 months now!) was a 10 minute long 'this is where you will be working, this is what you will wear. If you want it, you can have it and I will see you next weekend'. That was easy, and I enjoy my job.

But 3 hours? Wow. Has anyone been through a similar interview procedure? Remember, for bar staff

My Cessna interview was 4 hours, but that's because they took us on a tour, then split us into two groups where one group heard about benefits and the other went to one-on-one interviews, and then we went to lunch.

Be positve Matt. Look at as if it were a little of both.

I can remember a time, long ago, when you went for a job, and automatically got it!

I never had a problem obtaining employment in my profession..

As a former manager of IHOP restaurants for 14 years I cannot imagine why an interview would take 3 hours.

My tip...

..always pick a job where you don't have to work in close contact with other people...

...because they will always give you grief!... ...!

Oh!  How do I agree with you Fozzer!  Now that I am my own boss the only people I must deal with are my clients.  And it usually happens via e-mail and telephone.  I rarely deal with anyone face-to-face anymore (business-wise).

I've never done one that long personally and I've done bar work.
Might be worth brushing up on a few cocktails beforehand, Tequilla Sunrise, B-52 (my favourite), Slippery Nipple, Black/White Russian, Gorilla Snot, etc.
Also be aware of what shots taste like what

3 hours would total me.

In my entire life, only 7 interviews, 4 were sucessful, 2 I rejected, and the other 1 was unsucessful, thankfully.

Yeah, the interview for my current job was a piece of cake... The walk to the building from the carpark was longer than the interview (and it's a small carpark!) and bingo, a new job just like that 

I am guessing that there will be a lot of waiting around... Maybe some role exercises (hopefully I get to play as the drunken guest) and a short demo. The longest interview I had was about 45 minutes long, and that was as a supervisor... 3 hours seems excessive, so it will probably be many short interviews. I don't see why they won't tell us our time slot in advance though.
