Good evening all... :-/......... :-X

Oh yes...HALLOWEEN... :o

Halloween is just fifteen (15) days from now...are we ready?

How many of you would like to share a Halloween story with us members who still have our heads?

Perhaps some spooky stories from those aviators amongst us about real flying experiences?

How many here do not believe in witches, sorcerer's or sorcery?

My family and I love visiting Salem Massachusetts "The City of Witches" and we have relatives there.... :o

Nope Chuck, some farmer must have found a use for it... ;D

I remember just down the road from the first home I bought which was less than my car in price there were two DC-3 Airframes and a PBY5 Airframe being used as chicken coops.... ;D

Hi Chuck... :)

We were out for a drive the other day to look at the Fall/Autumn colours which are still beautiful.

The old girl had me stop at one of those road side stands to purchase some squash, turnips and a couple other things.

It was on a road we have seldom travelled and behind the main barn with just it's nose sticking out I saw an aircraft.

The farmer did not know what it was, only that his father had stored things in it.

Well he allowed us to go look at it.

It was an AVRO Anson, sitting on it's belly with no wings or rudder.

I remember my first Halloween in California aged 7, I went dressed as a Goblin! It was awesome fun. I've got a few photos lying around to prove it.
However they're trying to introduce it in the UK and that really isn't working. I mean I'm scarier without the make-up than any of the local kids ;D ;D ;D

Hi Mark... :)

Thanks for the reply...much appreciated... :)

Was going to do a post for those of you living in Merry Old England as I am sure there must be stories from World War One and Two about haunted airfields and aircraft... :)

My grandparents used to tell stories about those time periods but we children were supposed to be in bed.... :)

It was hard to get grandparents, parents etc. to talk about those war years and so much has been forgotten.

Even today, the men and women comming back from the hot spots on the planet do not talk about those encounters... :-X

Would love to hear other stories, real or not... ;D

Not exactly a ghost story or anything, but halloween related...

When I was about 17, there was a popular tv show in the US called "America's Funniest Home Videos". (Still on in syndication, but not as popular now I don't think) I remember one video in particular, where a man dress up as a, well, we call 'em porch dummies, a scarecrow looking figure many people put on their porches this time of year for decoration. When people would walk by, he'd move, scaring the ____ outta them.

So I thought, "Hey that could be fun!" We had an old rubber mummy mask that covered my whole head and most of my neck, I put on an old straw hat, a baggy flanel shirt stuffed with a pillow and some loose straw, an old way too big for me pair of jeans also stuffed with pillows, beach towels, and straw, you get the idea. From any passer by's point of view I was a dummy!(hey, who asked you!?!)

So, I sat down on a chair on the porch, bowl of candy on my knees, and a note pinned to my shirt for the "trick or treaters" that read "Please don't knock on the door, just help yourself to a piece of candy from the bowl".

The first group of kids to arrive that evening was led by a pirate of about thirteen or so. Thought he was a tough guy, making some sort of "that thing looks so stupid" kind of comment to his pals while reaching for the candy bowl....Tough guy that is until I reached up and grabbed his arm!

When my daughter was about 9, she had a Halloween party. I had acquired a Frankenstein mask that covered my entire head and part of my neck. I got some green Halloween makeup to match the mask

and put it on all exposed skin. I wore an old black suit where the sleeves of the jacket and the pants were way too short, a white T-shirt with holes and some old black combat boots. I used a rope for a belt.

Being that I was 6'3" and weighed about 240 at the time, when I walked stiff legged onto the porch as the mothers arrived with their children in tow, the desired effect was accomplished. I had to remove

the mask before any of them would come up on the porch, let alone inside the house.

Awesome Larry...awesome... :)

There was a family of at least six last year that dressed as the Flinstones including a replica of the vehicle from the show... ;D

It must have taken some time and thought to put that all together but what really amazed folks was there was a cold rain falling and yet they still put on their show... :)

Hello!

No spooky stories for All Hallow's Eve, but I do remember the "good old days" when:

-- we used to go out in groups of 20 or 25 kids and roam the neighborhood free; no parents, wherever we wanted to go.
-- we actually came home early to drop off the first chock full bag of goodies before heading out again!
-- folks in the neighborhood turned their whole houses into haunted houses, and we went in without a care in the world.
-- after canvassing our neighborhood, the parents would drive us to another one and we'd start all over again!

Of course, in this day and age the Frankenstein get-up and accompanying festivities would offend some parent out there, resulting in a visit from local law enforcement...  :(

Ahhh, the good old days...

Have a Happy and Festive All Hallow's Eve!

Alan  :D
