Not only is it subject to tax, but also a finders fee. ANYTHING found in Germany has to be handed into the police and if the owner comes forward, they have to pay a 10% finders fee to the finder (it is also laid down in law :o). Technically, it would also cover these found coins. However, I think that the story is a bit off. When you visit a toilet in a motorway service area you will quite often find a member of the toilet police. They are "supposed" to clean etc, but spend most of their time guarding and ensuring you make a "voluntary" coinage payment for the toilet use. I think that it is this money that the boss took. I will check the German papers, a story like this will make the front page as tax evasion is a crime that pales murder and kiddy fiddling down to that of a parking ticket >:(

Unlucky you. Here in Kenya If we find money somewhere you take it and if you are a good Samaritan you take it to the police station where they split it among themselves ;D ;D. But we tend to leave them be cause there are some superstitions about finding stuff like that on the streets :o :o.

There's enough to fill a warehouse if you know where to look.
It will take me a while to remove the book which had superstitions :( but these ones made me chuckle and are quite commonly told when i go to visit my grandparents. ;D
