OK i know this is probably going to be moved soon.

Well someone decided to write a column on the Arabian spring thing in a dutch newspaper, asking why the expats don't seem to care about what is happening in their home countries.

Well mister columnist, they do watch Aljazeera... but do not expect them to do things in public. Not because they don't care, but because most of them live here because they aren't exactly positive on their home regime and have felt the consequences.

Most of the Mideast dictatorships know how to track down their former citizens wherever they live, and aren't afraid of dirty scare tactics. So the average guy just keeps silent and calls his family three times a day asking how the situation is.

Speaking as someone who has spent a large part of his life living abroad I can only say this "Most people don't give a **** as long as they and their families are okay".
Anyone who gets all funny about their country and all fundamentalist should be deported for the safety of the other people in their "adoptive" homeland ;)

Political discussions inevitably lead to flame wars and hence we discourage them entirely at Simviation.

Thank you :)
