This really ticks me off.

Petty bureaucracy. Tell me about it. We're used to that sort of thing on this side on the Pond.

Judge him for what he did, not where he's from.

When I moved here (31 years ago) I got a flimsy little pink slip that I could show at the border to show that I am a permanent resident. Over the years that piece of paper disintegrated and no border official had ever asked me to show it. Untill the 9/11 thing and in fact only in the last 4 years the powers that be have only begun asking for this. Now I find out recently that I was supposed to check in and reapply every 4 years for some sort of plasticy residence card. Meanwhile my US passport expired. Which I am working on because I need that for point of origen. I am trapped here untill its all sorted. I know how this veteran feels!
