Discovery Channel has a new series airing January 5th, called Flying Wild Alaska. It features Era Alaska Airlines, a family run business. I'm looking forward to this one.

Looks like a takeoff from the Canadian Hit Series "Buffalo Airways"....

I wonder if it will be aired here as I am not sure if "Buffalo Airways" is available stateside yet it is televised in Europe and everywhere else...

I saw a piece on them just recently Doug. The guy said they had more operating DC-3s than anyone. There were about four or five around the ramp at the time. Amazing airline.

One of our son's brought home an American exchange pilot not long ago for a dinner.

That lad will be a good catch for someone when he get's back stateside...fine young man...

Anyways Larry what is the scuttlebutt on these deHavilland Caribou Aircraft he was talking about.

The United States Army or perhaps the United States Air Force as many were transferred over has them mothballed and they are going to be re-engined and with new glass cockpits.

Then sold on civilian street I guess.

There was a big article about Buffalo Airways in the august issue of EAA's Sport Aviation magazine. Pretty neat operation they have there.

I rarely ever watch TV, and so I don't pay for cable service. Shows like that would almost make it worth it though.

Cool, something to watch on the boob tube being stuck in the house at night in the middle of the winter. I have a funny feeling that I'll be doing at lot more Alaska Flying after I watch that program. Thanks for the heads up patchz.

Right on Larry but I was just wondering.

If they are still on the government books would they not have to go to public tender?

Here they are sold through Crown Assets to the public by auction and many times some of the assets are completely refurbished which makes no sense to me.

Lots of time a person like me will have no chance on purchasing something because they would be sold in lots, like perhaps ten or twelve aircraft, trucks etc.... ::)

Friday evening at 21:00hrs on the Discovery Channel is the premier of Flying Wild Alaska.

Expect to read a good report on that program from all of you...

Would be nice if they could program Flying Wild Alaska and Ice Pilots "Buffalo Airways" back to back.

The old girl and I, well most of the family I think watch very little television, perhaps the evening news so I am looking forward to seeing these two programs this winter.

Tonight is the night folks for the premier of Flying Wild Alaska.

It views here in Ontario at 21:00hrs on the Discovery Channel.....

But apparently it was viewed on January 5th on the Discovery Channel, I wonder if that was just in the United States. Our local advertisements say it premiers tonight... :-/

Definitely on my radar after seeing the promo for it and I'm sure they'll have all the (faux ?)melodrama the other reality shows have.
It has all the makings for some cool filming though.

Just finished watching it. Gave it five ***** stars. Got my DVR set to record the series. That way I can skip over the commercials.

I agree Bob, I really enjoyed it.

And before anyone takes it the wrong way and calls me a dirty old man, it is an observation and opinion of beauty only. But I thought his daughter was very cute, both in looks and personality.

The entire show was very impressive.
