Media sensationalism at its best.  The runway was only closed so as to repaint the markings, which included a change of runway numbers.  This happens fairly often.  The magnetic pole has always shifted, which is why aviation charts always include magnetic variation.  We renumbered one of our runways just 5 years ago.  Over 60 years, its heading had changed from 354 to 357, nothing drastic.  All it would take in some cases is a minute change.

I really wish the media would drop this story!   As I said in the other thread, I'm just waiting for some intrepid reporter to connect this to blackbirds. 

Interestingly, magnetic deviation is one of my biggest annoyances with FSX/FS9.
