Live in rural England? Want to send data?

Ues a pigeon .......... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11325452

Broadband is the most modern of communication means, while carrier pigeons date back to Roman times.

But on Thursday, a race between the two highlighted the low speeds of rural broadband in the UK; the pigeon won.

With all the waffling about saving money ...... how about investing it in something that will aid people rather than ********. Don't want to get political.

Aye ....... well .... we are more civilised up here ....... as noted when I went to visit my sister (admittedly in Essex) ..... turfed out of the pub by 11 on a Saturday and Sunday night.

Here in this part of deepest darkest Derbyshire I manage a respectable 7Mbps on a good day ........ and the pubs dont chuck out till well after midnight, even in the tiny village I live in.

True enough. That said I can get lockin's whenever I like as I work in my local... Haven't had a lockin' for a while, think I'll mention it to the boss tonight after I've installed all the new bits on her PC for her :)

No chance Ozzy, after you have installed the "Bits", you will spend the next two day trying to convince windows that;

The parts are actually installed.
They are compatible
The software can be installed and you are the administrator
The software version is compatible with your version of Windows
Convince

...the only annoying bit...I regularly get disconnected, and have to re-connect (dial) again...annoying, when in the middle of a on-line Multiplayer Session!

Fozzer, I'm confused.  I have DSL and there is no "dialing" up to connect.  The line is always just connected. It has nothing to do with the use of the telephone.  Shares the copper.  I can use the phone and the DSL service at the same time.

best,

Basically the same system I use. It occasionally disconnects for some unknown reason but automatically reconnects after a few seconds.

Mine has the option to Auto-Redial upon disconnection, but I find I sometimes have to re-Boot the Modem after it disconnects (unplug and re-plug the USB connection)....
Its annoying when I am half-way through doing "something": Turning pages, Posting, Videos, On-line Multiplayer, etc...
Google: Disconnection: Its a common fault with UK Service Providers.

Paul...an occasional Sink Plug... 8-)...!
