If he was a member of SimV and frequented the Photos and Cameras section he would have known better than to leave a peanut butter sandwich in his car. And the news 'person' (female/lady/girl type) could learn that locked doors don't stop bears either.

Bears can be persistant when it comes to food. A bear was breaking into a ladies kitchen to steal her delicious baked apple pies so they relocated the bear twice. The second time they put it over a mountain chain several hundred miles away and it was back within two weeks.

Just last week I spent about 20 minutes watching a black bear eating off of one of the huckleberry bushes in my back yard.

Black Bears are extremely dangerous creatures, and not to be messed with...

I had no wish to mess with the bear last year (only saw its gleaming eyes when we reached habitation and I didn't know that was what was stalking me until the next night) but that was my shorter walk (five miles vs over eight) to the job I then had. It was waiting in the road for me the next night when a pickup truck passed me and had to wait for it to get out of the way.
Just because you don't go out of your way to mess with them doesn';t mean they won't go out of theirs. Now that we're putting more and more garbage out along the roadsides for pick up, I can only foresee more of them lurking about our homes.

I've seen a couple of things on TV lately where they are becoming a real problem in some areas, as well as Moose and Elk. For now at least, I'm glad they are not this far south.

Goodly morning all...

Do you know what bears call humans who ride trail bikes through the woods?

"Meals on wheels"....

Lots of wildlife around here, black bears, deer, moose, fox, wolves, lynx, rabbits, porcupines etc and there seems to be more problems with some folks dogs than the wildlife.

There was a black bear in the school yard right here in the city I was told.

Treadwell was killed by grizzlies... but for sure, the smaller and (usually) more timid black bear can be trouble, especially if you get between Mama and her cubs, or get too close to a young "rogue" male who's out trying to establish territory and harem in the spring.

[color=#000000]That recipe sounds delicious Doug. Never got to eat bear. Back in the seventies, a family friend went on a hunting trip to Canada and killed a bear and a moose. He gave me some of the ground moose and we had moose burgers.

Hi Larry...

We eat wild game at least once a week. It is all the way it is prepared and cooked.

I prefer a roast of bear or moose over cow or pig. I love lamb and I think that is my favourite.
Deer is wonderful as well, a good rabbit in the right month, roasted for me, not stewed is lovely.

The two chefs from England called the "Two Fat Ladies" were my favourites to watch and grab the recipes for wild game from.

As for ground meat like hamburg we are not stuck on.

There are many a good cook in a hunting camp....

The best Moose I ever ate came in a canning jar in bite size peices. It was referred to as pickled moose. Only had it once. I love it, but can't get any more.

Sean and Larry this should be in a store near you...once you have had a roast of this you will not go back to just plain old beef (cow).
