Good evening all...

There are many rumours flying about here about some new aircraft designs which will be heavy lifters but also amphibious. 
That means the aircraft will have front and rear loading capabilities, four engines, inflight refuelling, STOL and be capable of water, ice and unprepared strip landings.

The technology has been around for some time.  Cost I think is the factor but it would be the right answer for us over here. 
Capable of supplying the Artic, for Search and Rescue, Aerial Fire Fighting (that we do need big time) and many many other tasks.

Not sure when but it is about time the Aviation Industry got going here again.   ;)

It almost sounds like you're describing a C-130.

I do remember the scuttlebutt about turning the C130 into a Flying Boat but that never happened.

The C130 and C17 only fill the bill right now.

Neither are large enough either.

We need something bigger than the C5A.

These rumours have been circulating around for a year now in several places and hopefully something might come out of them.
The Canadair 415 was demonstrated to our military for Search and Rescue and everyone thought it was the best aircraft for the job with a few modifications.
Many other countries have bought it but not us...

If it has to be amphibious, and larger than a C-5,

I'd say your STOL capability will need to be sacrificed.

Perhaps this will make a little more sense and give some reasoning to many thoughts from some very influential folks here.

Canada has a longer coastline and more lakes, than the whole world combined. There are roughly 3 000 000 lakes and that is a rough count, then there are bays and rivers.

I was talking to a friend this morning who flew the Short Sunderland in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

I often hear folks my age say I would not want to raise a child in the world today.
