Tears are coming to my eyes.

I have to put my dog down in the coming week. This is so hard to do.. I love her so much and she trusts me with all her heart. I can't phathom her last ride in the truck to the killing grounds. Ten years ago she saved my life during a house fire, She never needed a leash or any restraints because she would never leave my side. 15 years we were together....

I'm sorry to hear you have to do this, as it's never easy to part with such a dear friend.  Even though you know it may be for the best, to prevent suffering, it still sucks in every way.
A beautiful looking dog, and I can tell she will be greatly missed.

Steve, I know exactly how you feel. I have been in this position myself a couple of times and will probably be doing it again in the next 18 months. My old boy is at my feet as I type. He is 12 years old, a Belgium Shepard black lab cross. Due to his size, he is huge, he is slowing down as each day passes. Black from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, one ear up, one ear down, as daft as the day is long and the most loyal companion you could want. They are not dogs, they are not pets, they are, in my case the 4th member of my immediate

Steve - As a fellow dog owner/lover, I can sense your pain.

Steve, I'm very sorry for you. She is a beautiful dog. From the picture, it appears she has a wonderful personality. I guess it's in the eyes. It's never easy, but you will at least have some great memories.

I too know and share your anguish Steve. Just take comfort in knowing that you've always done right by her, and now is no different.

Steve, I truly sympathise with you. We had to put my dog of 17 years down a couple of months ago.
We're here for you mate, just enjoy your time with her ;)

I feel for you... but you'll be OK. Some advice, FWIW...

It will be hard to not be upset when the time comes, but you will feel better about the whole thing if you can make her last moments carefree... no drama. You can go all to pieces later, when it's over.

Thank you all for your kind comments. It really helps to have people to discuss this with.

I feel for you as well. I lost my cat of 18 years last October. She was old and we all knew it was coming, but that didn't make it any easier. Just remember the good times, the good times are all that mattered to the dog (or cat) so what better way to remember them is there? Also, look at the pictures you have of you're dog when you miss her. I've found that it helps.

I know how you feel as well. I just had to put my own dog down a few months ago. Rotty makes a good point, that was my first dog and didn't have the courage to stay with her we had her put down. Certainly one of the things I will regret for a long time.

Is she an American Eskimo?
She looks beautiful! Enjoy the time you have left with her.
I lost a 14 year old cat that I grew up with and was my best friend quite a few years ago, and I still miss him. :'(
I now have a dog named Maggie who will be turning 7 this August (I think, she's a rescue).

Yes, she was an American Eskimo, named Spot, pure white,
born on Christmas morning Dec. 1995. Thank you for the reply. I am sure yourself and Maggie will have many happy years to come.  ;)
