An extremely rare and pristine meteorite was found on the side of the road in Eastern Oregon and experts say it's 4.5 billion years old.Don Wesson found the rock 11 years ago.

There's a part of a meteorite at the Greenwich observatory which is about 4.5 billion years old and is named 'the oldest thing you'll ever touch'. I touched it. Wow, I feel so young now

A bit crazy how it turned up, but unless you know otherwise it could well just be an ordinary lump of rock.

According to Wikipedia the planet we live on is estimated to be 4.54 billion years old. The earth in my back garden is therefore older than these meteorites. Probably.

Well, the soil itself is probably much more recent, as it was formed by decayed organic matter.
But the elements of which our planet is comprised go way back... heck, even we are billions of years old, on the atomic level!

That happens rather quickly... topsoil can be very recent in high foliage areas. The 1994 Buick Century I now have sat but a couple years in the trees and, after removal of the pine needles, twigs and leaves, I had a thin layer of new dirt to remove from the intake venting. It took but a couple years for a Century of dirt.
