Always maintain your equipment, it does make a difference.
Last night I overhauled my beloved mountain bike, near bearings, cranks, front cogs etc etc. Tuned her up.
Today I was in a tearing hurry to get home and decided to use the Tube, shaved 2 minutes off my record for the 3.5 mile sprint (whilst wearing a 20kg rucksack, lots of study stuff).
A well tuned and maintained machine will look after you (overtook some road cyclist in lycra on their racing bikes as well as a couple of vans) ;D ;D ;D

Ozzy (falling in love with his MTB all over again) 8-)

[color=#000000]I've always been in awe of the feeling that a mode of transportation always seemed better after working on it. Power of suggestion???

LOL, those spandex wearing, over-priced-bike riding, "serious" cyclists always make me laugh. ;D

The next logical step for you of course is to motorize the mountain bike. ;)

(yes, it's mine :D)

I seem to see but one problem with it -- combustion powered (although it still uses much less per mile than most else out there). My mountain bike is currently restricted to daytime and lower traffic area usage. My previoius bikes had personally installed directionals, running (well, they didn't run and only moved with the bike but...) lights, brake lights and @60 watts of headlamp power. The lithium battery supply lasted about a week (~ 50 miles) without recharge.

I don't see that as a problem. ;)

You're light set-up sounds cool. I've been toying with the idea of adding turn signals to mine.

...Didn't mean to hijack this thread. :-X
