Phonetic Alphabet

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:14 pm

Goodly evening all... ;D

Now you all know me, down to earth sort of person, serious, experienced in non-aviation things, can't figure out 2, two, to and too.  Okay enough bragging.   ::)

Well one of our evil little grandchildren who is now old enough to drive showed up for supper tonight.  He is attending the University and studying Aeronautical Engineering.
Personally I don't think he knows up from down.   ::)    :-X

Well he has a jeep, not a new one but several years old, but he is a proud four wheeler.  Probably can't spell mud but that is beside the point.

He is a twinkle in the old girls eye and a pain in the _____ to me.   :P

After he had been here for fifteen minutes or so he dragged the old girl and I out to see this four wheel drive poor excuse for a Land Rover contraption of his.

Pointing out his "Licence Plate"
"ICUCME"

The little buggar asked me what it stood for.

Being in an aviation program I said:
India>Charlie>Uniform>Charlie>Mike>Echo

No he said...Gramps read it again...(I hate Gramps) but I looked at it and read it again.
"ICUCME"
India>Charlie>Uniform>Charlie>Mike>Echo

You are wrong Gramps he laughed, dad said you would not get it.  HMMM...I hate teenagers.... :P     :-X

He looked me square in the eye and said:
Gramps, it spells: "ICUCME"...I see you see me... :)

Now I ask you all this:
Do I eat crow or smack his father the next time I see him?

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

[color=#000000]Hi Doug,
Don't know if you remember my saying it, but I was a ramp rat for a local flying service for a little while during college. Between that and my Dad working for Southern Airways and his interest in aviation, I partially learned the phonetic alphabet. A couple of years later, I found myself having to retrain to the Police version, which is almost completely different to the aviation version. So now, I only remember a very small part of either.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

A couple of years ago (in the internet stone age) there was this messaging program called ICQ (does it still excist?) Only after a couple of months I understood what it meant. I Seek You.

I can see both sides to that story...

ICUUCME may have been a better one, but length of characters may not be appropriate.

My IT teacher (in the days when I took that useless subject. Trust me, it's a useless high school qualification) trained with the British Army or something like that. Chances are, not even that, maybe some volunteer bit or what ever. Anyway, he was on the phone to the IT technicians sorting out the resetting of a student's password and starting reading it out in the phonetic alphabet. Then, despite his 'training', managed to entirely forget what "Y" is. So I had to remind him. Even older age can be an issue when you try too hard. It took me less than an hour to learn the phonetic alphabet entirely. It took him moments to forget it again.
