Work Experience Week :)

Hello all,
Currently having a nice and easy relax of school with work experience week. I'm going to the local police force, and the last few days have been really good, tour of the station and the different command bits, talks from forensics, and today we were doing firearms.

Though we didn't get to fire anything, it was really interesting, and we had a go at this:

Not quite the same, but we used MP5s with Infra red beams, and we had to decide whether the target was a threat, or nothing at all, and if we got it wrong, we would either die, or get arrested. It's actually quite nerve racking and exhilarating, it seems so realistic when your looking down the scope of a sub machine gun.

That looks brilliant actually    So many people end up with naff work experience placements it's good you found something rather decent.

I did work experience at UFI, the company behind Learn Direct and I was the one putting in the code to send parts of their new website (updated just a few years back) to their server.

I did a second one (my compulsary one) at a hotel just down the road. I actually found it quite alright, the weather was nice too.

I'm getting one together in the near future to go and join the RAF for a week if I can. It would be nice to get a flight in if possible - I know some people have been able to get a Hawk flight when they went along.

Ye, the RAF would have been good, just it would take a long time for me to get there.

I think you usually do more of a residential and stay with them for that week. I'm sure you can commute (if it is feasable) but I reckon staying in their accomodation is probably alright too. I've not needed to know, so I haven't yet asked.

I have 3 hours mixed powered and (powered) glider flights with cadets logged on my 3822. I left the ATC however as I need to invest my time towards college work. I do miss the flying though

No, not a Cadet. I was thinking about it, but I've got lots of other things going on like Explorer Scouts, DoE, helping at Beavers, I just don't really have enough time do join.
I really would like to some flying, probably not as a full time job, but something being a glider pilot sounds pretty good, find it pretty fun?

Ahh fair enough. Well you still have many years to go if you do plan to join the ATC. See how things go, you may find you never want to join or you may find extra time to give it a shot. The activities you do anyway stand you in good stead for the rest of your life as it is.

Fun is an understatement. To be someone so interested in flying and to finally get the chance to go up, take the controls and do aerobatics is a fantastic feeling. Not everyone would agree, but like me you seem to have quite an interest in aviation (I suppose you wouldn't be here if you didn't like it in some way) so to be a fan of something and being able to finally do it is simply incredible. Once you get a bite of it, that's all you'll ever want

Hmmmm... let's see... work experience...

Got up at some strange hour, to go to some place I hate, to do something I loathe, for people I detest, so I can get the money to be able to try to live some sort of meaningful life, which pretty much only makes me feel awful when I have to put all that on hold to go do it all over again.

Multiply times 5-7  days a week, 52 weeks a year, for about 32 years now. 


Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to bed... I have to be up at 5AM for work tomorrow. 

There's a lesson in this tale of woe: Focus, early in life, on something you love to do, and stick with it. You'll still have crappy days, but it will not be so bad.
