Hawaii blasts sirens, warning of possible tsunami..

after 8.8 quake off Chile. The first waves in Hawaii are expected to hit shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday (4 p.m. EST; 2100 GMT) and measure roughly 8 feet (2.5 meters) at Hilo.

Yep, I saw that... the quake was so strong people here in Sao PAulo felt it... the fire deparment got over 100 calls of people saying they felt the ground move... btw, Sao Paulo is over 2500km away from the epicenter

8.8 is absolutely massive!! I'm surprised the death toll wasn't in the thousands (122 as of now)... it seems they were somewhat prepared.  :o

I wonder if the Haiti quake could have somehow accellerated movement of other plates.  :)

The Alaska quake of '64 was 9.4 after the final analysis and the Chilean quake will also prove to be of greater magnitude than initially recorded.

Haiti is on the Carribean plate near the boundry of the North American plate. Chile is on the South American plate.
