I realize that Humpty Dumpty had a great fall because he didn't have much of a spring...
but I've been wondering...
if a fellow doesn't become "a good old egg,"
is he just a shell of a man?

then again, WHY was Humpty sitting on the wall? was he waiting for the Chicken to lay another egg, or was he possibly waiting for the chicken to hatch out of the egg?

which brings up another point? Which came first, the chicken or the egg???

I wonder why it's always assumed that Humpty Dumpty was an egg. After all, nowhere in the orgininal rhyme is it stated that Mr. Dumpty is in fact an egg, only that he had a great fall. It would have to be a great fall indeed to thwart the reconstruction efforts of not some but all of the Kings men even with the assistance of their trusty horses.
