I Could Just Scream....

I am so sick of this Internet Securty 2010 virus program. I got it on my laptop about a month ago, and I just got it on my desktop system a little while ago. It almost looks like a legitimate program before you realize that it disables web browsing, programs, task manager, and constantly warns you about threats while asking you to purchase additional security features. It also runs up your memory and CPU usage.

I'm currently running virus and malware scans while in safe mode to hopefully remove it.

Whoever made it should be hunted down and executed as a terrorist...! >:(

Just remember that unless it's a program you've installed, then it's likely to be hostile.

I have AVG and (more recently) Avast antivirus. If I get a pop up and it is not either of those, then it isn't going to be legit because I simply do not have anything else on this computer.

So if you don't recognise it, don't install it.

Malwarebytes and a deep scan with something like Avast (in safe mode) should help.

Yes, it is annoying that people do make software like this, but simply recognising that the software that's prompting you to install is not an installed bit of software can save many hours.

It is also worth noting that usually these come up as internet browser tabs/new windows (so are likely to be fake) and sometimes they display a 'scanning page' using Windows XP, which is stupid as I run Vista.

Just things to look out for.

True, I would never and did not run or install any suspicious files on my desktop lately. The first thing I saw was a window pop up that looked like some sort of security/anti-virus which started 'scanning' my computer. I closed the window as soon as I recognized it, but it was too late. Within a few minutes the program had already done the damage.

I've had it twice and I can assure you I wasn't clicking on anything. It just appeared. I get the feeling it's in the system days before it shows its face.

If you have trouble removing it check out this link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010

Good luck!  Those rogue anti-virus programs are a pain in the @$$  >:(

The best way I've found to fight them, is when they pop up, bring up the task manager, and closer the browser window it's opened in there.  Clicking the red X to close the window can sometimes install the program you're trying to close.

You kind of have to experience the suprise attack. And yes it is possible I did something to trigger this. But what?
I don't mean to hijack this thread.. Just commenting on my experiences. :-/

I really don't know.  I leave browsing uknown websites for my laptop....lol
I don't use this desktop system for much web browsing, and the only questionable thing I did was trying to go to tvshack, tv.net, hulu.com, ect looking for a tv show to watch. That's when the program first popped up. Closing it didn't stop it, and when I tried opening up the task manager a few moments later it had already infiltrated the system.

But it seems to be removed now

System restore will not remove it. System restore does not touch documents or files. It may appear to be removed, but it is still there. It adjusts registry entries and a few other things.

Andrew...trust me...the only way to get rid of those virus thingies is too turn that 50 caliber on them.

I figure one shot should do both computers, the wall, the neighbours car etc.... ;D

I have never had a problem with the free edition of AVG.   :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It might be an idea to disable System Restore. The little buggar is probably hiding in there. http://antivirus.about.com/od/windowsbasics/a/systemrestore.htm
