Hi Paul

Excellent find.

I see one egg and I guess I was expecting powdered eggs.

Now would that be tea in the bottom left corner?
It does not look like tea and I would have thought tea would have been in a sealed tin.

How often did a person receive something like that?

Thanks in advance.   :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

For Energy; eat a plate of Margarine, Dripping, Suet, and Lard every day... :-*...!

Those are from the list of things to eat that are good for you...or so it was claimed at the time!... :o...!

...FATS!... >:(...!

I don't think its a very good idea nowadays... ;D...!

Many things to eat at the time were not very good for us, but they weren't available in sufficient quantities to do us much harm!

"Obese" Children and grown-ups didn't exist then.... :)...!

Paul...on a fat-free diet*... ;)...!

* Edit: Reduced fat... ;)...!

Very interesting Paul. I was too young to remember much about the war but we still had rationing long after it had ended. Most people tend to forget that it lasted until 1954.

I well remember rationing on sweets being lifted in February 1953. At last we could go & buy as many sweets as we wished. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] That's if we could afford it of course. I can still recall visiting the sweet shop on the way home from school on that wonderful day. For the very first time in my life I had a whole Mars bar all to myself. :D

I imagine all the sweet shops did record business. Not a good day for dental health though. ::)

I was thinking the same thing. We learned not to waste anything. It was actually illegal to waste food during WWII. It's gone to the other extreme now & the amount of food that's thrown in the bin is criminal. :'(

History of rationing in Britain & a nice little recipe to boot. ;) http://www.history.uk.com/1940s/index.php?archive=5

Goodly morning all... :)

Good little recipe there Doug...we have something along that line quite often.   ;)

I heard the old girl talking to another nattering nanny the other day about the Royal Air Force shirts being reversible.  I do believe it was only the collar but not sure myself now.

I am not sure if the British Army or Royal Navy shirts were reversible or not.

They uniforms must have been made much better than they are now but maybe not quite as practical.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
