Looks like the FAA has dreamed up another way to make a few bucks.

I'll say this much... at least it doesn't look like something cut off the back of a cereal box.  ;D

And $2 isn't a big deal- the DMV gets away with worse. >:(

My only beef is that they always put the date of issue of the replacement on there, not the date you actually earned the cert.

When did the FAA stop issuing paper certificates and start issuing the plastic cards instead? I earned my PPL spring of '06 and I was issued the credit card style certificate. Yes, the $2 is an inconvenience, but I prefer the plastic card. Much safer in the event your wallet gets soaked... ;D

So what's the difference between this Airman Certificate & a Pilot's Licence? I never understood why they have to keep changing things.

I can guarantee, if this was a European or British license, with our regulatory bodies, we would probably be paying at least the equivalent of $50-75, maybe even twice that.

I'd be more than happy with $2

For example, updating the UK driving licence costs

The basic format is called an Airman Certificate and this format lists the type of certification.

They started issuing the plastic licenses about five years ago I believe.  I received my first one in 2001, and it was the cheapo paper one (I had it laminated).

That happened to me during my Florida years when my wallet went missing.
