For the purposes of this poll, think 'LEGAL' tobacco products.

[edit][color=#000000]No entry for three days, so I'm closing it. Thanks for the comments guys. I find it very heartening so many have never used. Wish I could say the same.

Good morning all... :)

Yes I am guilty of that horrible habbit or established custom, which ever you prefer.

I was a heavy cigarette smoker for over 50 years. I packed up overnight almost 4 years ago. My wallet certainly feels better for it.

I would be a wealthy man now if I hadn't taken that first puff. On second thoughts I would probably have spent it on booze.

Unlike quite a few people of my age, I have never smoked. My Grandad used to smoke, but he gave up when he was forbidden from smoking inside by his wife.

Btw Doug, like the story.  ;)

I tried smoking a while back, but I didn't like it. But I do like that classic smokey pub smell  8-)

I probably won't take it up for the simple reason that it is too expensive.

That's not the right reason. Don't even think about it for the sake of your health.

I've noticed that more young women than young men smoke nowadays. As they used to say in the TV ad, it's like kissing an ashtray.

46 years for me. Very tough habit to quit when it gets embeded into your lifestyle. I'll be trying to quit again soon, as we have become the scourge of the earth.

I smoked cigarettes for the best part of 25 years, gave them up just over a year ago. As Hagar said, it certainly lightens the wallet!

I smoke the occasional cigar now and again though..

And I bloody enjoy it.

Sorry to go on about this but if I can do it after 50 years so can anyone else. It might be different for others but I always looked on smoking as more of a habit than an addiction. I knew I could give it up if I really wanted to but the truth is that I enjoyed it. As I said earlier, the government hate campaign actually made it more difficult to pack it up.

I wanted to do it for my granddaughter as I thought she deserved to have her old Grandad for as long as possible. I would also like to see her growing up for as long as possible. She now has a little sister so that's even more of a motive. If I can't do it for them there is no hope.

I decided to give it a go on my birthday of all days. No patches, no gum (filthy habit), no hypnosis or other remedies, I just quit. I treated myself to a nice new DSLR camera with the money I expected to save over the following year which gave me an added incentive not to weaken.

There's an old saying; once a smoker, always a smoker. There's a certain amount of truth in that. I can't say for certain that I will never smoke again but at the moment it's as if I never started. I've put on a little weight but that might not be such a bad thing. Everyone tells me that I look much healthier & younger now than I did when I smoked.

OK, lecture over. ;) Unlike a lot of reformed smokers I don't object to anyone smoking in my company, providing they don't blow it in my face. In fact I quite like the smell of tobacco smoke. My brother still smokes & that's his business, not mine.

Tried a couple puffs on a pipe once, but other than that, never smoked before
