It'll be interesting to see the first law suit where an under age kid has had to go through this scanner ... and if kids don't go through then that's where the terrorists will be hiding their stuff.

This is just not right.

Precisely. That was my first thought.

They work by beaming electromagnetic waves on to passengers while they stand in a booth...

Honey, is it ok if I take the microwave apart and build it in the phone booth across the street? I'll need the small tv from the bedroom too...

Crash ;) (I can do science me...)

They can refuse to be scanned, which will most likely mean that the are either refused access or the old method of patting down is used.

It's a device that works, but not one that I would like to be up against. Another incentive to play by the rules and not be up to no good!

I really don't see what's wrong with this......the images aren't stored, you can't make out faces, they are viewed in a sealed room etc.

What I find most amusing is that one of the comments they showed on the news this morning was a woman saying 'I wouldn't mind if I were younger and more beautiful.....'.....I'm sorry.....but if that's your reason not to implement them then maybe you should be turned away from the aircraft....

IMO anything to improve security whilst not making a huge impact on the passenger has got to be a good thing....maybe they should get all that refuse to strip off properly in another booth.....

I think you're missing the point Mic. With all the paranoia over child abuse they won't dare scan children with this thing. Terrorists aren't stupid & will take advantage of it by using children as mules. That makes the whole idea useless.

Don't always get why they tell the general public these sort of things - it's a whole load better for security, and then you don't get people complaining.

Well I would ask how do they deal with children now then??
Surely some security bloke or woman patting them down isn't going to go down any better than that.

I can see the point, but I must say after having on several occasions been subjected to the TSA selected screening process and some sweaty fat man trying to figure out if I'm wearing boxers or not with only his fingertips, I really couldn't care about this. Some poor sod wants to end up staring at my tackle and I dont have to look em in the eye, its no worse than some of the medical exams I've had.

To be honest I don't know. Never really thought about it before. What I'm trying to say is that all the time a section of the travelling public is exempt from these security checks it makes the whole thing a waste of time.

I can only imagine its a rather expensive trial basis thing. See just how receptive people actually are, instead of the usual. We'll hear what some newspapers get their readers to say about it, polling method.

In the US they have found a way to modify the software to only show hard targets on a generic human form, it removes the actual body image.  Personally I don't think these scanners are an issue.  They are already looking into your bag at whatever intimates you may have.

Just x-ray them and blame it on 'if you werent so shifty looking in the first place, you wouldnt be zapped by our machines'.

Problem solved  ;)
