Imagine this Paul, you are slowly arising from your sleep,  fully relaxed. Then you hear loud, thumping, whirring noises shocking you out of your sleep, and finally a house shaking noise, knocking everything off your walls.
Want to move next door?  ;D

I hate helicopters at the best of times. Having one based next-door would be my worst nightmare come true. >:(

Hopefully he will soon tire of his new toy but I'm none too confident of that. ::)

Why does every one keep bringing up his jet car crash?? 10 years from now when he buys a tank, are they going to be saying "I don't know why he bought a Challenger II Main battle tank, it is dangers, like 13 years ago when he had the crash in jet powered car and nearly killed him self?"  Wen are they just gonna except that the guys from Top Gear are crazy and free spirited?

The moment my neighbour would buy an R44 helicopter and park it up his drive way, I'd be very happy. It would mean I lived in a neighbourhood with rich people...

Seriously now. I'd be 'cheesed off' too. I already hate my neighbours Opel Corsa with his boombox and broken exhaust. When it starts it's like a complete discotheque thundering down the street...

Crash ;)

I think that's rather unfair Matt. Famous people tend to travel by air far more than the average person. I haven't checked but most of the above died in fixed-wing aircraft flown by professional pilots. One exception is Colin McRae who shouldn't have been flying his Squirrel helicopter as his licence & type rating had expired.

There must be other personalities who've been involved in serious accidents while flying helicopters. You could add British Superbike champion Steve Hislop to the list. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-169946575.html

PS. The Hamster seems a tad accident-prone & I'm sure it's crossed many people's minds that he

Actually, my neighbor does have an R22, and it's not as loud as you may think. I was never bothered by it. What Hammond needs to do is move to or build a private airport, where the people who live there don't care about helicopter noise.

EDIT: Speaking of which, ARE there any airport communities in the UK?

Actually Hagar, I was very surprised how many of that list died at their own hand. As for famous people tend to travel by air, you are quite right, however, there are a very few that have died on commercial aircraft. The vast majority, if not all have been killed on private flights or flying there own aircraft. That was the point I was trying to make.

I must admit to being surprised by a couple of them. The point I was trying to make was that most of them were not flying the aircraft they died in. For example, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & the Big Bopper died in a small chartered aircraft flown by a professional pilot. The same goes for Jim Croce, Audie Murphy, Rocky Marciano & Otis Redding. The common denominator here seems to be bad weather conditions rather than the fact that they happened to be famous.

EDIT: Speaking of which, ARE there any airport communities in the UK?

Not to my knowledge. The UK is a very small country & there are far more private pilots in the US. However, there are many small private airstrips where a few aircraft are based although the aircraft owners do not usually live there. One example of these is Deanland which is a former ALG (Advanced Landing Ground) built for the D-Day invasion in 1944.

I'd usually just say 'let him have his fun', but I've not had to put up with him. I don't know where he lives (Google Earth gave me some good ideas though) but he should respect the neighbours a bit more.

He is a car fanatic with a motorbike with a helicopter. I'd just get a good car and nice bike if I were him. A lamborghini maybe?

Someone not too far down the road has their own helicopter to commute to Liverpool in. They seem to be near other people, and a golf course I think, but I've never heard of complaints.
