My IE8 & FF spell checkers want to capitalize the word 'internet'.

Is it really treated as a proper noun?

I've always spelt Internet with a capital I.

The term the Internet, when referring to the Internet, has traditionally been treated as a proper noun and written with an initial capital letter. There is a trend to regard it as a generic term or common noun and thus write it as "the internet", without the capital.

Hardly surprising when hardly anyone bothers with capitals nowadays.

Maybe I'm asking a stupid question, but why do you want to use a spell checker? Read the message you want to post once or twice and you'll find your mistakes just as fast. Unless you really don't know how to reed or right.....

It's fast & convenient, and I usually learn from it.

You just never know. Sometimes, I think it looks right, but I discover I'm wrong when I click the spell checker.

And being a Mod on an international forum, correct spelling could be the critical difference between 'hello & welcome' and 'sod off'

That had me rechecking my first post for the word 'capitalize', and then this one, and it has no problem with either spelling.

The online Dictionary ensures that I am not a complete Pratt...(and Pratt must be "spelled" with a capital "P"..it says)......!
