http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4446898Now I know not alot of people here want to talk about sports but you dont need to know sports to talk about this.
My question is how do you feel about what this RB did? Do you think he deserved to be suspended the whole season (including a bowl game)?
To watch the WHOLE thing here it is...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4rkKm0TZFoIf you watch the whole thing after he puches the player on the way back to the locker room (they showed it after this guy was recording, it was a replay) that some Boise State fans were yelling at him and he was going to go over there and maybe assualt them to! Thats why you see him being held back and then he started to go crazy again.
My thoughts- I agree with the suspension but I think the Boise State player should be suspended a game for him taunting LeGarrette Blount which caused him to punch him in the face. I also think he's lucky he didnt get criminal charges against him for the assualt he was going to give the fans.

The NCAA is making players shake hands before the games. Guess it didn't work very well.
A year's suspension might be a bit much. I think it's the pendulum. These guys have been getting away with so much for so long the pendulum has swung in the other direction and the schools are going to start being ultra-strict.
How does that scholarship thing work? He's a senior - can't he just get a scholarship at another school?
I wouldn't worry too much about that bowl game. The Ducks won't be in Pasadena.

Oops. Looks like he really screwed the pooch.
Sucker punch could sink out-of-shape BlountOregon RB LeGarrette Blount began the season carrying some character baggage thanks to a suspension last season for failing to live up to team obligations and the fact he came into spring practice overweight and out of shape, and his sucker punch of Boise State LB Byron Hout on Thursday night took those minor concerns and made them massive.
We talked last night to a college scouting director from an NFL team who said, "In the matter of five minutes, Blount just went from second- or third-rounder to completely undraftable." Yes, he was egged on a bit by Hout, but big-name players deal with that kind of trash talk all the time without throwing punches in return ...
Reportedly, Blount was a no show for classes and at several team meetings before he was suspended. Then, add the fact he didn't take it upon himself to make sure he remained in shape during the time off and it sent up a red flag about his character and maturity. It isn't all about what the player does on the field. Teams are watching his every move off the field as well. They will be a little more leery about a prospect who doesn't shows the signs of being mature enough to handle the responsibilities that come with being a pro.
One of the hardest aspects of the NFL scouting process is predicting how a player will act when you start cutting him handsome paychecks. There is more to professional football than just what happens between the lines. It's a full time job. There are meetings after meetings. Players take film home and study extra on their own so they can succeed. Blount has shown little of the desired drive or will to succeed in the past. Now add in a sucker punch, followed by disregard for coaches and teammates trying to calm him down. It shows a lack of respect for his opponents, but more importantly, his own coaches and his program.
In an NFL climate in which commissioner Roger Goodell has placed a huge emphasis on behavior and accountability, teams are simply not willing to invest money in players who behave like this, unless you're talking about a Michael Vick or some other player with similarly freakish talents. Blount does not have that kind of skill set and has effectively cost himself a lot of money in the NFL ...

Yeah, I was watching ESPN tonight as I didn't know that he was a senior. They say that the punch may have been because the Boise State player had taunted him and that he may not have got suspended the whole year if he wouldn't have tryed to go after the fans at the end of the game. I still have yet to hear someone (not on here) but on TV say that they disagree with the punishment. Everyone seems to agree and this just cost him...maybe a degree, millions, a chance to play in the nfl, and lots more chances for his life to be successful.
Now all he is gunna do is look back at that day he decided to throw the punch and cause all that ruckus to ruin his future.
I also dont get why they are shaking hands before the game now?

[font=Comic Sans MS]I am sick to death of hearing about "athletes" who lose their temper for what ever reason and then resort to violence all because they are highly strung or someone has called them a name or chanted at them. I was highly strung when I found a traffic warden giving me a ticket. Punching him the mouth would not have got everyone saying, poor lamb he is not understood and we could never understand the pressure he is under. It would have got me a front row seat in a court room. Seems that as long as it happens on the sports field it is OK. So he is going to miss a few games. Sympathy, take a look in the dictionary, it becomes between shit and syphilis. Is it a

Shaking hands before the game should have been something players did regardless of a rule, it's just the right thing to do.

Well throughout the game they were talking about him. He told espn that Boise State needs an a** whooping...and espn was saying thats putting bad media images on him...also his coach said that he had a more mature attitude getting closer to game day so he wasn't expecting to see him do this.
Im just not all for the shaking of the hands because of players like these who will start something before then during the game give dirty hits to eachother or what not then after get in a brawl just because of what was said before the game to each other.
Some sports its necessary to shake hands when all the athletes arent thugs like these. College usually doesnt have alot of thugs. The players are very discipline but once they get to the pros, get money, getting girls and what not everything changes...

I think its good sportsmanship that they are having the players shake hands. The only reason I disagree with the situation is the players or aka thugs like this guy who will start something in the game and then eachother will give dirty hits risking the players health and there teamates around them. Then after the game start a brawl like this, which thankfully got pulled apart and no other players from either team fought.
I like how the coach said it, that to play at Oregon is a privilege and what he did was not the University of Oregon or the University of Oregon football. He did a good job with his decision and how he put it. This is bad news though for the Oregon fans lossing a RB and more stress on this new coach.

Really, the shaking hands before the game didn't have anything to do with the punch after the game. If anything, shaking hands after the game is worse than shaking before the game, as afterward, one team is mad at the other, while before, they both think they are going to win.

I know it didn't here...but your sapose to shake after the game to tell the team how they did and say congrats to the winner and what not. Talking before isnt bad, and your right it might be safer but it can go either way. If you have two players who hate eachother and they do this during the game they can go after eachother during the game.
Im all for shaking hands...im not against it or anything, I just like it better done after the game.
And you have to remember he would have never punched him, if the Boise State player would have not taunted him or touched him (saying who knows what)...then the fans wouldnt yell at him.
Not to point the finger at the Boise State player but what Blount did was uncalled for.
