Why did he get away with this,

After so many blatent previous convictions?

I like my beer, but this person has won the title of, "our national drunk". 

I suppose he will appeal, likely using public money for legal deffence.        >:(

There should be a limit to the number of DUIs you can accrue (one, maybe?) before they simply yank your license... permanently. That would hurt even more than a stretch in jail... and it would probably solve the problem.

I believe the fourth time is a permanent revocation here. I assume he had no liscence or insurance since he was still going through court for a previous DUI.
If that was one of my family he killed, I could end the whole fiasco in a few minutes, if they just let me "talk" to him in the "back room" in private.
