Your Last Holiday(Flight)

Just thought I'd post a topic on this.

Want to talk about your last flight? Any experience you want to share?

I'll go first,

23rd July 9:05pm:

Take Off London Gatwick BMI --> Arrecife, Lanzarote. All was good, no delays or nothing which was pleasing. Had to wait on the taxiway for a bit to wait for a couple planes to take off.

Roughly 1:00ish:

Approach to Lanzarote. Now, I have never been on a plane to Lanzarote so expected the approach to be "normal". Well, It was far from normal for me. As the Airbus A320 was decending at about 3,000ft It dropped alot, not abit, alot, kinda like it was gonna just float down to the sea, whether the pilot was too high on approach I don't know, but a couple kids onboard screamed but I remained silent. It then made a very very steep turn to the right which was pretty frightening seeing, people on their boats and seeing the waves.

Landing is pretty nerve racking because as the plane begins its final approach, all you can see is sea especially if you look the left. Then at the last minute it flares, and then you see the runway.

A good experience if im honest.

I've been on two trips in the last month.

United MSP-DEN-LAS and LAS-DEN, then was rebooked on Delta to MSP due to... well never mind.

Then last weekend

Delta/NW MCW-MSP-CVG-DAY and DAY-MSP-MCW
I rediscovered my love of ERJs on this trip.

The last time I flew in a Passenger Jet was some time in the mid 1960's, for my work.
The flight was between Birmingham (England), and Glasgow (Scotland).

Not a particularly enjoyable flight then, and I don't expect it will be any better now...(Probably even more unpleasant! from what I observe at various Airports on the TV!).

I certainly have no particular urge to be crammed into a Passenger Jet, with a zillion other Folks, at any time...far too much hassle!....

...a bit like joining Facebook!... :o... :o.... ;D....!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

My little Cessna 150 Tourer in FS 2004 suits me just fine!... ;) :)...!

Last holiday flight I took was from Amsterdam Airport to Lagos Nigeria and back with KLM back in december/januari 2006/2007. Pleasant flight without any problems. Took forever to get our luggage at Lagos Airport though. Return flight was on a DC10 or MD11 (can't keep them apart), the flight from Amsterdam to Lagos was on a 777 (if I remember correctly). Will do that flight again in about 2 or 3 years.

Crash ;)

Next year I plan on flying to Australia with the A380. To be honest I have never flown out of Heathrow, always been Gatwick, Luton or Stansted.

DC-10 doesn't have winglets.  MD-11's do.

...MD-11 expert ;D

Lanzarote looks interesting - lots of water around it, but also some fairly substantial little mountains, which depending on the direction to and the approach in use (and the time of year - very high volume of traffic in Europe particularly) could explain the rather rapid descent during the approach.

Also it seems one or two of the approaches there have a fair offset in the approach track compared to that of the runway, which could go a little way to explaining the apparent relatively aggresive turning quite late in the approach.

Anyway, last airline I flew on? EasyJet, out to Germany. No problems at all. :)

We flew back from the Dominican Rep. to our home port. Our pilot did a left leg approach and I was thrilled at the banking  and throttle changing that went on. We flew over my house and I could see .. #1, I need some new shingles, #2 While we were coming in I always knew right where we were at!  8-)

Last holiday's flight was rather normal as things go, which in one light is good as a flight should be "normal", and therefore safe. ;D

However two years ago in in 2007 on approach to Bristol (EGGD) from Dalaman, Turkey, we came in 'slightly hot' on the approach and the landing was, err, fast  ;D Thank Hod for seatbelts; I slid forward in my seat but had it not been there I probably would have made contact with the seat in front of me.

Going flying again this Friday; jetsetting off to Egypt for three weeks :) If there's any dodgy flying going on I'll let you all know! ;D
