They do say the average age for American kids to lose their virginity is around 13 or 14, so it was bound to happen.  It is rather unfortunate to see children having children IMO, but I do remember that my grandmother was married at 11 and a mother at 13 and that was normal then.  Times have changed.

I just read this on a Dutch news site too. Made me feel sorry for this kid. The newborn that is. The thirteen year old? If you want to do adult games, suffer the consequences....

Crash ;)

I remember well the words of Nick (Store Manager at Northampton) when I did my store training for my current job "If a girl of 14 around here doesn't have at least 3 kids then she is a lesbian" ;D ;D ;D

If this had happened only 50 years ago the whole thing would have been hushed up. The girl would either have been persuaded to have an abortion or sent away "on holiday" while she had the baby so the neighbours didn't find out. It would then either have been adopted or her mother would have brought the child up as her own. In the latter case the baby would grow up believing its real mother was its sister. The father would have no say in the matter or any claim to his child.

And if you lived in rural America just a couple of decades earlier, this would have been a normal part of life.  That being said I don't condone what happened, but persons of that age less than a century ago were deemed to be responsible adults, spouses, and parents.  I guess I'm confused on the matter, but no, I do not believe this young couple had a clue what they were doing.

I know nothing of this young couple's background but it's quite possible they both might stand a better chance now than they would have without this publicity. From the amount of coverage in one newspaper (the Sun) they're being paid a considerable amount of money for an exclusive story. Their parents are giving them full support & even the government has promised help. It's quite likely that one or both grandmothers will raise the baby allowing the young parents to complete their education.

That's what would usually happen without the publicity. This is not the unusual situation the media & politicians would like you to believe.
